5 Hilariously Practical Reasons to Get Hitched at 23

I had just logged into Facebook, and there it was, smack at the top of my news feed:

“20 Things You Ought To Do Instead of Getting Married at 23”

The more I browsed, the more articles I discovered, telling me what a punk I was to even consider getting married at 23. Of course, this bothered me. I am, after all, in the danger zone, being at the wrong end of 23 with no intentions of getting married till I’m 25. And the parents are already in hyperactive mode. But then, I decided to quit being a drama queen and really think. A lot of people I know did tie the knot or get engaged at this young tender age. I mean, it does have a lot of advantages. That’s why I wanted to write about it.

Hahaha! Kidding! 😛 😛 😛

Personally, after a lot of technical difficulties I faced at 23, here are my slightly funny and only sane reasons for why getting hitched at 23 is so obviously a great idea!

Movie Mate: Every time I want to see an English movie or a Hindi movie not suitable for family viewing, I have to scour the ends of my social circle to find company. Major issue lately since everyone’s busy with exams and office. A movie plan requires more extensive planning and matching of schedules than a dinner between Obama and Modi. couple-cinema-bored-men-excited-women-watching-movie-32589835

But once you’re married, your spouse is bound by the Unbreakable Vow to be your movie companion, even if the flick in question is a Bhojpuri version of Star Wars with bullock carts in space and milkmen as Stormtroopers. The Force is strong in this one.

Trip for Two: So all these articles mentioned taking a trip alone or with friends rather than marrying at 23. Okay sure, all parents aren’t Amrish Puri from DDLJ to let their child take off alone for a trip. And we all know the trials and tribulations involved14404104-결혼식-안내장-남자-친구는-비행기의-비행 in planning a trip with friends: Too expensive!/Parents won’t allow!/I’m broke, dude!

Now marriage can help here! Drag your spouse to the ends of the earth without any issues of time or money. Your trips will be happily sponsored! Chances are, you’ll be doing the sponsoring anyway. Parents happy. You happy.

Perennial Pastime: When I am stuck with people glued to their phones, or waiting for a bus or simply in the mood for some chatter, I wish to have someone to call up or chat with. Friends may not always be free

im-bored-can-someone-please-text-me to talk. Boyfriends/Girlfriends are usually an option but persistent badgering can appear super needy! So what then?

Presenting The Spouse! This special device once acquired by marriage will be obligated to be your ultimate pastime, anytime anywhere! They will never get bored with your endless talking (and even if they did, what they gonna do about it haa?) Also, no worries about phone bills. Even if you’re international calling for hours, it will be considered romantic as opposed to stupid!

Disappearing Deadlines: Being a girl, deadlines were inevitable. Any request to breach them was answered with “Stay as late as you want with your husband when you’re married”.

Wives get accompanied with or enjoy pick and drop services from their husbands, and thus are free from deadlines. Husbands, if they are lucky to not have nagging wives, may also have complete freedom (or the illusion thereof! 😛 ) to stay out late. Totally a win-win for all!

When All’s Said & Done: Not everyone can manage to accomplish things alone, be it taking trips or starting a new project. If you’re one of those people who wouldn’t cross the road without company, then getting hitched at 23 isn’t such a bad idea after all.

And what’s more, if you’re married at 23, you can do all possible things mentioned above and in those crazy articles in the first 5 years of your marriage. Once you’re all bored and the initial excitement has evaporated, you can start churning out those kids! And you’d still be early compared to all those who chose to marry post 28 because they had a list of things that they wanted to accomplish before marriage but never ended up doing any of it!

So there you go! Wasn’t that an eye-opener? What? You want to know when I am getting married? Dude, I am just 23! Let me live a little! Jeez! Ask me when I’m 25! 😛 😛 😛
